As part of the scientific and professional exchanges between the IRB and the University of Kyoto, the Protein Folding and Quality Control group of Dr. Maurizio Molinari has hosted student Masatoshi Hagiwara for thepastthree months. The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) made Hagiwara’s stay in Switzerland possible. The purpose of the visit was to allow Hagiwara to learn some specialized techniques developed in the Molinari lab.
Upon returning to Japan Hagiwara will complete his doctorate studying the mechanisms which prevent the development of human illnesses caused by defects in protein folding, such as cystic fibrosis and hereditary pulmonary emphysema.
