Laurent Perez studied Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics at Bordeaux University (France) and obtained a Master’s degree in Structural Biochemistry and a Master’s degree in Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Choquet, member of the French Academy of Sciences.  Then, he joined the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg (Germany) supported by an EMBL/EMBO fellowship to obtains his PhD degree in Biochemistry. Next, Laurent did his postdoctoral research with a Marie Curie fellowship to study the structural mechanism responsible of microtubule nucleation at EMBL and the Centre for Genomic Regulation (Spain) under the dual supervision of Pr. Isabelle Vernos and Pr. Luis Serrano. After his Postdoc, Laurent joined the pharmaceutical industry (United Kingdom and Switzerland) as an independent researcher to study host-pathogen interactions and design virus like particle vaccines. He returned to academic research as head of the Gene Expression and Protein Production Platform at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (Bellinzona, Switzerland). Laurent is currently exploring the molecular mechanisms of viral entry and performing targeted and rational approaches for vaccine design against viruses with unmet medical needs.
