How to reach IRB by car from north
Traveling from north, such as from Zurich or Basel follow the highway direction “Lugano / Chiasso”. Take the exit “Bellinzona Nord” and follow the signs to Bellinzona. Proceed on the main road for approx. 3.5 km until you reach the intersection with a traffic light (5th light after motorway exit) at the foot of the main castle (residing on a rock). Turn right into “via Vincenzo Vela”. The IRB is the second blue building on your left. Parking: the IRB offers only limited parking space for visitors. Convenient parking is found in the parking lot “piazza del sole”. The entrance to the underground parking lot is opposite to via Vincenzo Vela (see map).
How to reach IRB by car from south
Traveling from south, such as Lugano or Italy follow the highway direction “San Gottardo/San Bernardino”. Take the exit “Bellinzona Sud” and follow signs to “Bellinzona/San Gottardo” which is about 4 km north. In Bellinzona at the first roundabout go straight ahead (take the second exit from the roundabout, the main direction turns right). Cross also the next roundabout (take the second exit from the roundabout) and take after appox. 400 m the first right turn into “via Vincenzo Vela”. The IRB is located on your right and is the second last blue building before the road closes for cars at the traffic light (dead end).
How to reach IRB by train
From the north (e.g. Zurich main station) take a southbound train to Lugano / Chiasso / Milano until Bellinzona. When you are traveling from the south take a train to Chiasso / Zurich / Basel. For the train time table see the Swiss Railways website. Walking from the station of Bellinzona to the IRB takes less than 10 min. Leaving the station turn left and walk down the main street “viale Stazione” until you reach the first street that turns right “via Claudio Pollandini”. Continue walking until you reach the main street at the traffic light (in front of you is the Hotel Unione). Cross the street and take a left. Continue to the next traffic light and turn right into “via Vincenzo Vela”. The IRB is the blue building on your left.
How to reach IRB by plane
The closest airport is Lugano-Agno (LUG) with connections to many European cities. A convenient shuttle bus will take you from Agno to the train station in Lugano (for time table see http://www.shuttle-bus.com ). Board one of the frequent northbound trains to Zurich, Basle, or Bellinzona (for time table see Swiss Railways website). The two nearest international airports are Milano-Malpensa (MXP, Italy) or Zurich-Airport (ZRH, Switzerland). Malpensa is connected with Bellinzona by a convenient shuttle bus (for time table see http://www.malpensaexpress.ch/orari.php) or by train (Swiss Railways website). From Zurich -Airport trains depart from within the airport. Take a train to Zurich main station and switch to any southbound train to Lugano / Chiasso / Milano.
