The 2010 Pfizerforschungspreis was awarded to Ursula Schenk for work carried out by her in the lab of Fabio Grassi of the IRB (Dr. Schenk has since moved to Pharmanalytica SA in Locarno). The prestigious Pfizer Award recognizes excellence in research in several categories. Dr. Schenk was honored for work that was published in Science Signaling in 2008; Purinergic Control of T cell Activation by ATP Released Through Pannexin-1 Hemichannels. The promising research results may have important benefits for the treatment of T-cell-mediated inflammatory diseases.
