Supporting Foundations

The core funding of the IRB comes from individuals and institutions who share the IRB mission. Besides competitive and public funding, the Helmut Horten Foundation and the Gustav & Ruth Jacob Foundation enable the day-to-day research and teaching activities of the IRB.

Helmut Horten Foundation

For 48 years, the Helmut Horten Foundation has promoted health care in Switzerland. The institution was founded in 1971 by Helmut Horten. Since his death, his wife Countess Heidi Goëss-Horten has assumed responsibility for the business of the foundation.

The purpose of the Helmut Horten Foundation is to promote health care, in particular through donations to medical research centres. In the field of fundamental medical research, the Foundation also promotes the academic work of students at Swiss research institutions.

The Helmut Horten Foundation fulfils its charitable mission in Switzerland, where it is headquartered. Funds permitting, the Foundation may also support causes outside of Switzerland in compliance with its statutes. The funds available are limited to the income from fixed assets. The Foundation capital must not be utilised.
